It has been a while since we’ve posted a new counting song on Youtube…and here it is: A fun and bouncy tune that teaches children how to count in tens, from 10 to 100!
As the song developed, we quickly realized that we were going for a more retro sound (which happens quite often as we are huge fans of the 60s and 70s). To match the song, we chose retro fonts and colours – and we love the outcome!
As usual, we started with a storyboard. As you can see, we kept the storyboard fairly rough. This time we wanted to create a video with a simple structure that completely focuses on the song and the numbers. We also wanted to incorporate more visual repetitions, to help the children memorize the shapes of the numbers.
After deciding on the overall structure of the video, it was time to illustrate the details. For the band, we used a picture we created for last year’s Christmas banner:
We liked this illustration so much that we simply recycled the ideas – we only added more details on the instruments. As we wanted a colourful yet simple design, we placed our numbers and characters against a white background, which made everything pop!
Overall, it was a lot of fun creating this song and video. With each new video we are getting a little better and and little faster with the animation (and at writing songs, too) – and we look forward to making a lot more this year. Hopefully the children enjoy them as much as we do!
